I met with a service called Twitter few months ago. At first he brushed it off thinking it was probably a fad that slowly fade. But after watching a little closer I think this idea may have legs especially in a society where information overload has led to our attention extends to decline.
Twitter is in a category called "microblogging." What is microblogging? Basically gives you the possibility of sending very short (less than 140 characters) messages to relatives, friends, coworkers, or others in their network.
At first glance seems an instant messaging service for friends to know what is done at any time.
But going far beyond. There are other more interesting applications that can take advantage of a platform microblogging. Microblogging is a way to send short but more frequent updates of events you are interested in that almost any digital device.
Some of the use cases could include:
1) emergency dispatch. Things like Amber Alerts or actual crimes in progress could be sent across microblogging platform.
2) Quick news from around the world. It may be more than one source of news feeds. Think about having small feeds from your network of people.
3) Get quick answers on your network. For example, you have a question about what to buy digital camera, or need an answer to a trivia question that you can take a gamble.
4) Keep informed about what his friend was doing around the world.
5) Follow-up conference of information in real time. Think about going to a major conference where there are too many sessions for one person. So if others in your network are attending some of the other sessions may be able to quickly find the best session so you can attend.
6) Marketing of products or services. For example, you want to send a link to a recent update blog post. This link can be updated instantly numerous networks.
7) After having fun telling jokes around the school or office.
In conclusion Twitter microblogging and other platforms may address the need to quickly get the bits of information for the generation of addicted to information that care has declined slowly to about 140 characters.
